A brand-new urgent medical care facility called on RadixData to build its entire voice and data
cabling infrastructure from the ground up. The project called for the installation of voice cabling
and a PBX telephone system with auto-attendant and voicemail capabilities and data cabling
for its intra-office network. The network cabling needed high-speed capability to also support a
proprietary device used to communicate with laboratories and delivery of patient lab results in
real time.
The challenges were three-fold: Meet the customer's specifications within a limited budget that
had already been stretched thin for construction; coordinate installation, testing and certification
to work around drywall and electrical contractors; complete the project by Christmas, when it
was expected that the demand for emergency medical services in an underserved section of
Fairfax County would be high.
To work within the customer's budget, RadixData offered Category 5e cabling, patch panels
and jacks as a high-speed, lower-cost alternative to Category 6. This reduced the customer's
projected costs by 10%.
During the installation, misunderstandings on the part of some of the construction contractors
caused delays which opened the possibility of a "domino effect" that could hinder the team
from meeting the deadline. RadixData rose to the challenge, coordinating directly with the
other contractors. RadixData's technicians even worked during evening hours in order to avoid
"tripping" over the other construction works-in-progress.
End Result: Installation was completed, end users were trained on the new telephone system
and the urgent care facility's doors opened in time to greet Santa.
