President’s Message – January 2007 by Lynn Fraas
Welcome to the 1st newsletter of 2007! Mary & I are very excited to be the 1st Co-Presidents! She & I will be alternating meetings, so it will be like “now you see us and now you don’t”!!! Did you know that we have close to 100% turn-over in Committee personnel? There are bound to be a few snafoos, so please be patient!
+ If you see a gap, we hope you will consider helping us fill it! With that in mind, I would like to request that 1-2 folks volunteer to chair the distribution of the Raffle Tickets. Gretchen Caola and her committee are well on their way to completing the 2007 Raffle Quilt, however we need to be able to buy & sell the tickets! Please consider stepping into this position and bring your best friend…or 2 to help! Kudos go out to Phyllis Coppolino handling the Raffle Quilt last year. I understand that the winner was ecstatic!
+ Our program this month will be presented by Mary Anne Henderson from the Red Hen Fabrics. If her Shop emails are any clue, we are in for a funny and enlightening program!
+ REMEMBER that January is Membership renewal month…be sure to have your form & check completed before you arrive to make for a smooth sign-in! Once again, the membership price remains the same ($25.00 or if 62+ $15.00…newsletter is emailed)
+ I’ve had a chance to peek at the Block of the Month packet and I think you will be amazed! Jenny Hynes has done a superb job of putting together quite a different array of blocks! Thanks Jenny…this was definitely a lot of hard work on your part!
+ The Baron’s Ball folks need a few good women J to volunteer to make a block apiece…see Matty Porter or Teri Biglands. The little bit of the design that I have seen looks very interesting and I will “have to” make a block. Our “Fayette Nostalgia” raised $700 last year…can we top that with this year’s quilt?
+ Hopefully, I will see all of you at the January 25th meeting where you will be enjoying refreshments provided by the board members!
Our Next Meeting Ben Densler
Our next meeting will be on February 22nd. Our program will be presented by Ben Densler. Ben is a historian and an importer of Japanese Kimonos.

Community Service Projects for 2007
This year we will be extending our work on two projects for Christian City that were begun last year. Christian City is a local live-in and/or group facility which helps to meet diverse health and long term care needs in the area. The first project will help in their group homes for children and young people in need. There are 48 kids from age 6 to college age living in these group homes. Often times this is the only stable family-like environment they have known. Each home has a need for a twin bed size quilt for each child. If you make your quilt for this project, please remember that these are age 6 through college and not infants or toddlers.
The next project is wheelchair size lap quilts for the Alzheimer patients. Currently they have 4 floors of 50 patients each in need of quilts. Last year we agreed to try to make quilts for one floor only. These quilts need to be approximately 36’ x 45” in size and should be appropriate for adults.
These two projects will mean that our guild will have a busy year ahead of us. Luckily we have a great, caring and giving group of people who have made our community service project goals possible in years past.
2007 Barron’s Ball Quilt Time to Pony up, Ladies. We need volunteers!!!!!!
We still need more volunteers to help make the blocks for the Barron’s Ball Quilt. Needed are four (4) corner blocks 9 1/2 x 9 1/2 in a Sawtooth Pattern in beige and green fabric. The pony blocks should be sky and pasture (appliquéd pony sitting in a pasture with green grass and blue sky). Please see Matty Porter for “pony templates”.
Due date for blocks is March meeting.
